The SDC Laurier Ouest, the district of Outremont and  Plateau Mont-Royal are proud to present a vibrant summer cultural programming for young and old. Open-air music at Place Kate McGarrigle and circus arts on the wandering circuit will combine to brighten up the avenue and create a festive, captivating atmosphere.

For 2024, 19 performances will take place on Laurier Avenue from June 15 to September 22.

With a gentle touch, she’ll revisit French and Quebec classics and try to put a balm on your day.

Pick Pocket can’t help but get close to people to steal their property. Unfortunately, his techniques for stealing and diverting attention are ineffective. He’s so bad that people tend to pity him.

This bandit has never had any complaints or prosecutions – in fact, he’s never managed to steal anything.

Waykarü is a playful, extravagant character inspired by the Mexican Alebrije. Although a little clumsy with his long legs and big tail, he’s very enthusiastic about discovering the world around him. He takes pleasure in interacting with people and is certainly very sociable and playful by nature!

A character who is both contemplative and in direct contact with the public. Waykarü has already been presented at numerous festivals and events in Canada and around the world. Colorful and endearing, he attracts attention wherever he goes!

Two gendarmes who’ve been living in Quebec for far too long keep order wherever they go. Armed with their sense of humor, their good will and their maracas, they’ll try anything to solve any problem, even if it means inventing one if there isn’t one.

Since the sheriff’s sudden departure, chaos threatens the town. Pete and Jack have arrived at the gallop of the Wild West, determined to take over the town! On the other hand, they have a nasty habit of losing their temper with each other, sometimes a little too much so…

These clumsy, sympathetic and laughing cowboys have all kinds of adventures up their sleeves. Accompanied by their faithful mount, will they reach their goal?

AUGUST

Place Kate-McGarrigle

Discover the exceptional career of Marcelle Ferron, pioneer of abstract art in Quebec and the only painter to sign the Refus global in 1948. Awarded the Prix Paul-Émile Borduas in 1983 and designated a “historical figure” by the Quebec government in 2023, Ferron paved the way for generations of artists. This lecture, covering the period from 1940 to 2000, highlights her determination and commitment through rich iconography and video testimonials. Hosted by Éric Perron, a cultural expert for 25 years, this presentation promises to delight Ferron neophytes and connoisseurs alike.

Pipa wants to play, have fun, fall in love… A host of surprising characters will accompany him on his quest: Monsieur Toful, Mademoiselle Nina, a banker and even a very hungry crocodile!

Pipa is a zany comedy inspired by the European tradition of girdle puppetry, an art form that has enlivened squares and fairs for centuries. This family show, accessible from age 3, is presented as part of Casteliers sur l’herbe. The Spanish troupe La Puntual, currently on tour in Quebec, invites you to discover this performance full of charm and laughter.

Families will create a puppet inspired by the characters in the play PIPA. We’ll see how a new puppet is born from each person. Eugenia Susel and Néstor Navarro will guide you along the path of character creation and give you the first instructions for acting with your puppets.

The district of Outremont and Casteliers offer a puppet-making workshop. This workshop is presented as part of the borough’s cultural and event programming.

This dynamic group on stilts embodies a bold mix of styles, fusing punk aesthetics, color blocking and Pop Art. Their bright outfits and vibrant make-up create a joyful, energetic atmosphere.

This musical comedy by Louis-Philippe Paulhus revisits Charles Perrault’s famous fairy tale: the youngest son of a poor family inherits a clever cat who offers to help him leave his miserable life behind and become a nobleman. Disguised as a musketeer, the cat manages to outwit the king and defeat a giant who is terrorizing the surrounding countryside. Thanks to his pet’s cunning, the miller’s son becomes a marquis and then a prince!

Recommended age: 3 years and over. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Inspired by a work by Salvador Dali, the T’as Bonne Mine puppet face project represents a surreal and unusual vision made up of several characters.

The three-dimensional work consists of two gigantic, independent articulated eyes, carried by stilt-walkers, and a nose and luscious red mouth, carried by puppeteers on the floor.

This unusual, grandiose performance is underpinned by psychedelic, steamy music inspired by the world of Pink Floyd.

Tupicycle is a unique summer project: a sound system comprising 2 vinyl turntables, a mixer and a loudspeaker, mounted on a 60s Schwinn tricycle. Specially customized to play Brazilian music, it livens up Montreal’s parks and streets, bringing a sunny, festive atmosphere to every corner.

The celebrated duo of violist Marina Thibeault and pianist Janelle Fung present a spellbinding program. They celebrate equality through modern and contemporary musical masterpieces.

The two musicians will perform a varied program including Paul Hindemith’s Sonata Op. 11 No. 4, as well as contemporary masterpieces by Charlotte Bray, Anna Pidgorna and Dobrinka Tabakova.
